Ζακυνθινό Καρναβάλι
Feb 21 - Mar 15, 2027Expected
Each year before Lent, the Ionian island of Zakynthos throws a carnival rich with the flavor of old Venice. Costumed parades and street dances fill the town, building to a famous mock wedding played out for laughs in the main square, in a celebration shaped by centuries of Venetian rule over the island.
The Zakynthos Carnival record is date-tracked, but stronger reviewed Field Guide media would make it easier to inspect.

Costumed parades and street dances fill the town, building to a famous mock wedding played out for laughs in the main square, in a celebration shaped by centuries of Venetian rule over the island.
Under Venetian rule, Zakynthos absorbed many traditions from Italy. The carnival reflects this heritage: participants often wear Venetian costumes, and the events (like the mock Venetian wedding) recall 16th-century customs. Over time the festival has become a focal community event, blending local music and dance (the 'kantele’ performances) with theatrical elements from the island’s history and folklore.
