Research Ethics
Cultural documentation that is accurate, respectful, and worth trusting.
Our principle
FestivalAtlas is not a ticket marketplace and not a tourism blog. We document festivals so travellers can understand a place on its own terms — and plan around dates without eroding what makes the celebration real.
What we publish (and what we avoid)
Authentic, recurring traditions
We focus on celebrations locals actually attend — events that exist without marketing budgets and would still happen if visitors disappeared.
Verifiable sourcing
We prioritise primary sources (official organisers, municipal calendars, community institutions) and cross-check. If we can’t verify a date, we don’t present it as certain.
Respect and safety first
Some festivals are sacred, private, or politically sensitive. When documentation would increase risk — for participants or communities — we limit what we show, how we describe it, or we avoid publication entirely.
The standard we hold ourselves to
Every festival we include must pass our 5‑point authenticity test.
If you think we’ve made a mistake — or you’re an organiser with updated information — please contact us at contact@festivalatlas.io.
If you’re an organiser or community representative and you believe a listing increases risk, we can reduce visibility (de‑feature, de‑index) or remove it entirely. Email us and we’ll treat it as a priority.
Privacy matters, too
Responsible research includes responsible data handling. See our Privacy Policy and Data Protection.
