Born from a student idea in Chernivtsi in 2006, the grassroots celebration has spread across the country and the diaspora, filling the streets with the colors of tradition.
The holiday originated with a 2006 student-led initiative in Chernivtsi and quickly spread nationwide and among the diaspora. It underlines the shared folk art of Ukraine and is now an annual show of patriotism; in Lviv it is inseparable from traditions like the ritual dressing of the Rynok Square lion statues, started in 2017, which symbolizes municipal pride.
