Wirksworth Carnival and Well Dressing

Each late May the Derbyshire town of Wirksworth holds a carnival weekend with traditional well dressings, floral mosaics laid over the wells and blessed at St Mary's Church, followed by the crowning of a Carnival Queen. Well dressing is a singular Derbyshire custom dating back at least to the 18th century.
