A week-long summer school in traditional Irish music, song, and set dance held annually in Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare. The first and biggest event of its kind, it commemorates the town's best-known uilleann piper Willie Clancy and has been running since just after his death in 1973. The programme includes morning instrument and dance classes given by top players, daily workshops on singing and the tradition, afternoon lectures (including the Breandán Breathnach Memorial Lecture), evening recitals, nightly céilithe, a music tribute at Clancy's grave, and scores of impromptu sessions throughout the town. Up to 150 teachers and hundreds of musicians, dancers and singers draw in thousands of listeners.
