Belfast, United Kingdom
Each August, the Falls Road area of Belfast fills with Féile an Phobail, two weeks of music, talks, and street events that have grown into one of Ireland's largest community festivals. Begun in 1988 during the Troubles to lift a struggling community's spirits, it remains a proud celebration of West Belfast's culture and resilience.
Created in response to conflict, Féile an Phobail promotes cultural pride and unity in a historically disadvantaged area. It celebrates Irish language and heritage (through events like Féile an Earraigh) as well as global cultures, aiming to present the positive side of West Belfast. The festival now attracts locals and visitors alike with diverse programming that reflects Belfast’s cultural revival.
