Originating as a pagan summer-solstice celebration (Noc Kupały), Wianki honors the longest day by combining fire-and-water rituals with St. John’s festivities. Modern Warsaw Wianki explicitly invoke Slavic tradition: organizers say the event “recalls the ancient rites of St. John’s Night in the heart of the capital”.
