Each year, the mountain village of Voskopoja celebrates its heritage with a village festival. Crafts, folk music, and gastronomy fill the days in a place once known as Moscopole, in a celebration that honors a village that was a great center of Orthodox Aromanian culture and learning.
Voskopoja (historically Moscopole) was a major center of Orthodox Aromanian culture and education in the Ottoman Balkans during the 18th century. Its baroque churches and school were famous in the period of the Balkan Enlightenment. Today, the village’s residents and diaspora preserve these traditions. The festival underscores Voskopoja’s Orthodox heritage and cultural legacy, linking folk music and church art to local identity.
