Each midsummer, the city of Vilnius celebrates Joninės, the festival of St. John's Night. Bonfires, flower wreaths, folk songs, and dances fill the parks, often by the water at Verkiai, in a celebration that descends from the ancient pagan solstice rites of the Baltic.
