Vevchani Carnival

Вевчански карневал

Vevchani, North Macedonia

Jan 12 - 14, 2026ConfirmedSource

Each January, the Macedonian village of Vevchani celebrates the old Julian New Year with a carnival of grotesque, handmade masks. Costumed figures of devils, brides, and satirical characters parade through the village by torchlight, in a wild and irreverent celebration that blends ancient pagan custom with the feast of St. Basil.
