Each year the Veltenhof district of Braunschweig holds a three-day Volksfest, with carnival rides, music and dance, fairground food, and the shooting contests and uniformed march of the local Schützenverein. The festival springs from the post-war German tradition of community Volks- und Schützenfeste.
