Each Fastnacht, the old town of Tübingen fills with masks for its great carnival parade. Some eighty carnival guilds and thousands of masked marchers wind through the historic streets, in a celebration that carries the centuries-old Swabian-Alemannic Fastnacht tradition.

Key moments

Fasnetsverbrennung (Carnival Burning)

Residents and visitors witness a large bonfire on Sternplatz. The effigy is burned with speeches and music, closing the festival with a fiery spectacle.

Rathaussturm (Town Hall Storming)

The crowd gathers to watch local Narren (in costume) approach the Rathaus to claim the key from the mayor, amid cheering and humorous skits.

Fasnetsumzug Parade

Spectators line the historic route (Neue Straße, Holzmarkt, Marktplatz, etc.) to watch revelers with wooden masks and live music. Stalls sell food and souvenirs, and bands perform for the crowd.
