Finnmarksløpet is Europe's longest and the world's northernmost major sled-dog race, held annually in Arctic Norway since 1981. The race starts and finishes in Alta and crosses the Finnmarksvidda (Finnmark Plateau). It features multiple classes: FL-1200 (14-dog teams, 1200 km), FL-600 (8-dog teams, 580 km), FL-Junior (6-dog teams, 200 km), and a new FL-300 class. The event is described by the organizer as 'landsdelens største idretts- og kulturarrangement' (Finnmark's largest sports and cultural event) and 'Vinterens vakreste eventyr' (Winter's most beautiful adventure). It receives daily national TV coverage from NRK and in 2027 will host the IFSS Long Distance World Championship.
