Each year, around the end of Easter, the village of Hoteni honors its hardest-working farmer with the Tânjaua ploughing festival. A decorated plough and a procession carry the chosen villager through the fields and down to the stream, in a celebration rooted in ancient agrarian fertility rites of Maramureș.
