Mimosa trees were introduced to Provence in the 19th century and Tanneron boasts the largest mimosa forest in Europe. The annual festival emerged in the 1930s as a local celebration of the golden blooms that herald spring. After interruptions due to fires and WWII, it was revived in 1995 and has since become an iconic seasonal rite for locals, symbolizing resilience and the region’s rural heritage.
