St Elijah's Day Feast (Gornji Brišnik)

Proslava Ilindana u Gornjem Brišniku

Each July 20 the mountain village of Gornji Brišnik treks along forest paths up to its old hilltop cemetery chapel for a solemn Mass in honor of St. Elijah. The Ilindan celebration is a fine example of rural Catholic devotion in Herzegovina, drawing villagers home to their ancient chapel.
