Each year, the Donetsk countryside celebrates Ukrainian culture with the Smoliansky Kulesh festival. Named for the thick kulish porridge, it brings embroidered costumes, folk music, Cossack games, and craft markets to the village, in a celebration of the revival of rural Ukrainian tradition.
