Each midsummer, the headland of Slinningsodden near Ålesund blazes with one of the world's tallest bonfires. Built ever higher each year, the Slinningsbålet once set a record at over 47 meters, in a celebration of the Norwegian St. Hans rooted in ancient solstice fires.
