Like other Border Ridings, Selkirk’s event is about securing the town’s land boundaries and commemorating past sacrifices. The Cornet leads local riders on horseback through ritual challenges, and townspeople gather for forums, speeches and dances. It reflects the community’s strong sense of continuity with its Border past.
