The story behind it
In Vorarlberg’s alpine past, farmers moved cattle to high mountain summer pastures and brought them back in autumn. The Schwarzenberger Alptag embodies this Dreistufen-Wirtschaft cycle and has been recognized as national intangible heritage (2011). The procession, often held around mid-September (Hoalekreuztag), features decorated cows and local costumes, reflecting the pastoral traditions of the Bregenzerwald.
