Each Carnival in the Sardinian town of Oristano, masked horsemen in eerie, expressionless masks gallop full speed down the course of Sa Sartiglia, trying to spear a small dangling star with their swords. Led by the ceremonial Su Componidori, the daring riders carry on a jousting tradition with Spanish and medieval roots.
