Each early January the Beira-Mar neighborhood of Aveiro honors São Gonçalinho, throwing cavacas, the hard glazed sweets, down from the chapel roof to the crowds below. Believed to intercede for couples and for those with bone ailments, the saint draws a lively, generous crowd to his feast.
