Santa Tecla has been celebrated since 1321 when Saint Thecla’s relic was brought to Tarragona. Over centuries it evolved to include many Iberian folk elements: giants, traditional dances, drums and trumpets, fire-procession and human towers, blending religious veneration with lively popular culture. It’s timed right after the nearby UNESCO site of Tarraco’s heritage events, acting as Tarragona’s cultural centerpiece.
