Each year, the old Alfama quarter of Lisbon fills with the sound of fado for a two-day festival devoted to Portugal's soulful, melancholy song. In the narrow streets where the music was born, leading fadistas perform across the neighborhood, in a celebration of a tradition woven deep into the city's heart.
