Samhuinn Fire Festival (Samhain)

Samhuinn Fire Festival

Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Oct 30, 2026Expected

On the last Friday of October, the streets of Edinburgh blaze with the Samhuinn Fire Festival, a dramatic modern reimagining of the ancient Gaelic Samhain. Fire dancers, drummers, and costumed performers act out the battle of the seasons as summer gives way to winter, in a torchlit spectacle of the old Celtic new year.

Key moments

Lighting of the Neid Fire (Bonfire)

After a costumed procession up Calton Hill, performers gather around a ceremonial pyre. The bonfire ('Neid fire') is then ignited amidst drumming and chant, and all participants move around it in dance and celebration.
