For St. Sebastian's feast the village of Montarrón sends its Botarga out three times through the streets, handing cheese to all who gather. An ancestral figure of Guadalajara's winter festivals, the Botarga carries old meanings of fertility into a lively day of celebration.

Visitors witness the Botarga jumping and clattering with castanets on backs, giving out bread, wine and cheese in a charity ritual.

All attendees share a hearty cocido stew. Officials and the Botarga hand out bread, cheese and wine to each person as a final blessing.

Mass of San Sebastián

Attendees see the Botarga enter the church masked-uncovered, distributing oranges and offerings as a fertility symbol during the mass.
