Honoring St. Anthony (born Lisbon, 1195) as the “city’s matchmaker and saint of miracles.” The festival blends Catholic tradition (mass, weddings) with working-class popular culture (street stalls, music, manjerico plants). Historically, communities cook communal feasts in the saint’s honor; today it also includes modern entertainment stages. The manjerico (sweet basil) with love poems is a local symbol of the holiday.
