The festival began in 1861 as an agricultural fair (Landwirtschaftsausstellung) and evolved into an annual autumn “Volksfest.” Held on the Loreto meadow, it reflects Upper Bavarian traditions of harvest celebrations and social gatherings. The event includes the traditional Wirte-Festzug (parade of brewers and people in Tracht) and integrates the Catholic feast of the Assumption (Mariä Himmelfahrt on August 15).
