Each year, the city of Cluj-Napoca gathers amateur male dance groups for a festival of the fecioresc and bărbătesc. Costumed dancers compete in the leaping, slapping men's dances and the brâu, in a celebration that preserves a Transylvanian form honored by UNESCO.
This festival preserves UNESCO-recognized dance traditions (the Transylvanian joc fecioresc form is on UNESCO’s Intangible Heritage list). It reflects Cluj county’s pride in sustaining ancient rural dance rituals, promoting them across generations. It highlights multi-ethnic Romanian folklore (including Hungarian and others’ influences) through men’s communal dances.
