Each July, the town of Vila Franca de Xira honors its campino horsemen with the Festa do Colete Encarnado. Bull-running and festivity fill the streets along the Tagus, in a celebration of the cattle-ranching heritage of the Ribatejo and the red-waistcoated riders who work its herds.
