Each December, the town of Rattenberg stages a famous Perchtenlauf through its old streets. Figures in elaborate horned masks, drummers, and witches roam to drive away winter's demons with noise and spectacle, building to a witches' dance, in a celebration with roots in pre-Christian Tyrol.
