Each September, the Bonn district of Pützchen hosts one of Germany's oldest folk fairs, a tradition reaching back to 1399. What began as a market for wine and goods now draws over a million visitors to its fairground rides, stalls, and beer tents, in a great autumn celebration that has outlived the centuries.
The fair's earliest documentary attestation (1367) falls in the Late Medieval Guild Culture and Sacred Markets era, when pilgrimage markets and sacred fairs were a defining feature of Rhenish economic and religious life.
