Each late August, the city of Chernihiv hosts the Polissya Circle, a folklore festival of the borderland. Amateur ensembles from Ukrainian villages and abroad perform the songs, dances, and old wedding and harvest rites of Polissya, in a celebration that preserves the shared traditions of this woodland region.

Established to preserve shared East Slavic traditions in the Polissya area, this festival highlights religious hymns, indigenous languages, and multicultural heritage common in northern Ukraine. It fosters international cultural ties and educates youth about their multiethnic background through folk arts. Participants include minority groups in the region, reflecting Polissya’s mosaic of beliefs and ethnicities.
