Twice a year, at Candlemas and again at Pentecost, the town of Mesolongi gathers at the monastery of Saint Symeon for one of its most beloved festivals. Solemn liturgies give way to lively folk celebrations of music, food, and dance, in a custom the town has kept since the days of the Greek War of Independence.
