Palio di Ferrara

Each spring, the city of Ferrara holds what it calls the world's oldest palio, a horse race among eight historic districts first run in 1259. A magnificent Renaissance-style parade fills the square before the great Este castle, where the contrade compete for honor in races on foot and on horseback.
