Each winter the Ostašov quarter of Liberec keeps its Shrovetide masopust, as locals in folk masks, the Laufer, the bear, the bride and groom, parade house to house through the village. A pre-Lenten custom rooted in medieval Bohemia, it fills the streets with costume and noise before the fast.
The Ostašov Carnival record is date-tracked, but stronger reviewed Field Guide media would make it easier to inspect.

Carnival (masopust or fašank) is a pre-Lenten folk festival with roots in medieval Bohemia, preserved here through a modern revival by the local association. Historically a three-day feast at winter’s end, it was maintained in northern Bohemia and has been reintroduced in Ostašov since 2012. The event embodies communal folklore and agrarian rituals (fertility, expulsion of winter) common in Czech mountain villages.
