The Öblarn Krampusspiel preserves centuries-old Alpine customs tied to Advent and Christmas. It was added to Austria’s intangible heritage list for its unique depiction of local mythology and its inclusive, non-violent approach. The event includes traditional roles like the ‘blacksmith’ and ‘Hunter,’ and culminates in the Krampus procession toward midnight, symbolizing the transition from winter to spring.
