These customs are rooted in Moldavian New Year folklore. The Capra (goat) dance is central – an ancient fertility ritual symbolizing the renewal of the year. In Belceşti, the loud music, bells and masked figures are believed to drive away evil spirits and ensure prosperity, reflecting a syncretism of Christian and pre-Christian traditions.
Dress warmly and follow local customs. Offer greetings or sweets. Do not interrupt the performances.
Attendance can be appropriate while active documentation is not. Let local boundaries define your role.
