The Great Ayazma is the holiest spring in Strandzha, revered in local legend. According to tradition, the Ayazma’s waters are blessed by the saints, and nestinari bring their icons here to renew the sanctity of their ritual drum and attire. The valley’s Odurcheta (wooden reliquaries) are decorated and offerings are made. Tsarevo’s municipal website notes that this joint ritual was revived to strengthen cultural continuity among the Strandzha villages.
This is primarily a religious pilgrimage. Dress respectfully and speak softly. Do not approach the Ayazma or reliquaries without invitation.
