Each year, the Karandila hills near Sliven host a national gathering of the Karakachani, a Vlach shepherd people. Dance troupes from Bulgarian Karakachani villages and Greek ensembles meet in traditional costume to dance and sing, in a celebration of the dialect and customs of these mountain shepherds.
