Schützenfeste are a longstanding Westphalian tradition. In the Münsterland region alone there are dozens of historic Schützenbruderschaften with around 10,000 members supporting a calendar of events. The Münster city Schützenverband (founded 1980) unites these parish clubs to hold the Stadtschützenfest each year. This highlights local values of "Glaube, Sitte Heimat" (faith, custom, homeland) and communal solidarity.
