Midsummer is Sweden’s most cherished annual tradition, combining pagan solstice celebrations with Christian heritage. At Skansen, an open-air museum showcasing Swedish culture, locals recreate the classic Dalarna-style midsummer rituals. Each year thousands of Swedes participate in raising the flower-bedecked maypole, dancing folk tunes, and sharing traditional foods like pickled herring and strawberries under the Midnight Sun.
Visitors should dress casually (flower crowns welcome) and participate respectfully in folk dances and songs. Participating in ring dances is encouraged, but avoid disrupting ceremonies (wait for invitation).
Attendance can be appropriate while active documentation is not. Let local boundaries define your role.
