Meteņi Masked Carnival (Kalnciema Quarter)

Meteņu karnevāls Kalnciema kvartālā

Riga, Latvia

Dates to be announcedDates pending

In Riga's Kalnciema Quarter, Meteņi marks the Latvian pre-Lenten carnival, with handmade masks, loud games, mask parades, and sledding to chase winter away. The custom takes its name from an old word for the turn of the season, and it gathers locals to call in the coming spring.
