Each Shrovetide, the city of Ústí nad Labem celebrates its Masopust carnival. Costumed revelers and pre-Lenten festivity fill the streets in the town's own version of the tradition, in a celebration of the old Czech folk custom that marks the end of winter and the approach of Lent.
