Masopust (Carnival) is a Czech pre-Lenten folk tradition marked by costumed parades and feasting. Historically it is a late winter festival of merry-making before Lent, with roots in pagan festivals (Saturnalia, Lupercalia) and later Christian calendar restrictions. In Svitavy it has become a key annual community event bringing residents together in traditional celebration.
Casual festival atmosphere. Visitors may join in costumes; respect participants and the playful nature of the rituals (no offensive behavior during the mare ritual).
Attendance can be appropriate while active documentation is not. Let local boundaries define your role.
