Each Shrovetide, the town of Roztoky near Prague holds an elaborate Masopust carnival. A great costumed parade of skeletons, bears, water sprites, and other figures winds through the town for a day of folk festivity, in a celebration of the old Czech carnival custom of the days before Lent.
