Learn about Field GuideMasopust is the Czech name for the carnival period (from Epiphany to Ash Wednesday) when communities hold folk celebrations of winter’s end. Villages across Bohemia traditionally hold masked processions, feasting and merrymaking during this time. In Bohemia these customs date back to the Middle Ages, reflecting a pre-Christian festivity now incorporated into local culture.
