A traditional South Tyrolean Carnival (Fasching) procession through the village center of Kurtatsch an der Weinstraße in the Unterland. Masked participants including Schnappviecher (snapping-animal figures), Hexen (witches), and other comic and traditional Fasching characters parade from Ansitz Freienfeld via the Platzl and Obergasse to the Hauptplatz, where festivities continue with music, a beer tent, and food stalls. The Maschgra is called the 'fifth season' in the local Unterland tradition, rooted in the custom of driving out winter and welcoming spring.
