Luminarias (Bonfires) Festival of San Bartolomé de Pinares

Las Luminarias de San Bartolomé de Pinares

Each January, the village of San Bartolomé de Pinares lights great bonfires in its cobbled streets and rides horses through the flames. The Luminarias honor San Antonio Abad, patron of animals, on the eve of his feast, in a spectacular celebration that blends Christian devotion with far older rites of purifying fire.
