Ljelje (Spring Procession of Queens, Gorjani)

Ljelje (Proljetna procesija kraljica)

Gorjani, Croatia

Apr 6, 2026Expected

Each Easter Monday, the Slavonian village of Gorjani fills with the Ljelje, when young women dressed as kings, in tall flower-trimmed hats and bearing swords, parade from house to house. Singing old songs of blessing and fertility, they keep alive a spring rite so rare that UNESCO lists it as living heritage.

Media proof note

The Ljelje (Spring Procession of Queens, Gorjani) record is date-tracked, but stronger reviewed Field Guide media would make it easier to inspect.
